AI Day 2025 in November
FAIS will be one of the organizers of AI Day 2025, one of the main AI meetings in Finland. Tentatively AI Day has been scheduled to November 2025, possibly in Otaniemi in Espoo, with paper submissions probably sometime in late summer 2025. We will keep you posted about further developments.
AI-related seminar series
There are some regular seminar series related to AI or focusing on some areas of AI. One such seminar series is FCAI’s Machine Learning Coffee Seminar that alternates between Aalto University and University of Helsinki campuses, and to which everybody is welcome https://fcai.fi/machine-learning-coffee-seminar. Another one is Helsinki CS Theory Seminar which usually focuses on theoretical CS, but occasionally has AI-related talks, e.g. on March 5, 2025. https://research.cs.aalto.fi/theory/seminar/seminar.html.

FAIS General Assembly in April 2025
FAIS has two General Assemblies, one in autumn, with the annual action plan and budget as the main topic, and one in spring with the auditing and accounting as the main topic. The spring General Assembly is up next, most likely in April. We will inform about the exact dates a bit later in March.
Call for nominations: Finnish AI Dissertation Award 2024
FAIS is seeking for nominations of candidates for the Finnish AI Dissertation Award 2024. This national distinction is awarded annually to an outstanding dissertation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Proposed PhD dissertations should have contributions in AI interpreted in a broad sense (cf. the scopes of major AI conferences and journals) and must have been defended at a Finnish university between December 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024. The nominations are due by May 31, 2025, and should be sent by email to dissertation-award@stes.fi.
