FAIS has a new board

FAIS has a new board as of 1.1.2024. The new chairman is Jussi Rintanen and the members of the board are: Lili Aunimo, Jeremias Berg, Tapio Pahikkala, Ilkka Pölönen and Rebekah Rousi and Anssi Yli-Jyrä.

The first general assembly of 2024

The first general assembly of 2024 will be organized on 19.4.2024 at 14:15. The venue is Hall 504 in Tieteiden talo located at Kirkkokatu 6, 00170 Helsinki. The assembly is organized as a hybrid event, i.e., remote participation via Zoom is also possible. An invitation containing details and instructions on how to attend to the meeting will be sent to all members of FAIS by e-mail. We hope to see as many of you as possible!

Call for nominations: Finnish AI Dissertation Award 2023

The Finnish AI Society (FAIS) is seeking for nominations of candidates for the Finnish AI Dissertation Award 2023. This national distinction is awarded annually to an outstanding dissertation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Proposed PhD dissertations should have contributions in AI interpreted in a broad sense (cf. the scopes of major AI conferences and journals) and must have been defended at a Finnish university between December 1, 2022 and December 31, 2023. The nominations are due by May 31, 2024, and should be sent by email to dissertation-award@stes.fi.

Call for Special Interest Group Proposals

Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society FAIS calls for proposals for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) within FAIS. The aim is to foster bottom-up activities by bringing together FAIS members with similar interests in AI-related topics and questions though SIGs activities.

SIG proposal can be submitted at any time by a group of FAIS members seeking a SIG status to the FAIS board using the email address sig-proposals@stes.fi. The proposal must contain a clearly stated purpose of the SIG. A SIG is expected to bring together at least 10 FAIS members with various different affiliations and ideally geographic locations.

Discussion Boards

FAIS members are encouraged to actively take advantage of the discussion boards on the FAIS web pages https://www.stes.fi/discussion-boards/ . To participate in the discussion, you will have to be logged in onto your account.  Viestejä voi myös kirjoittaa suomeksi eller på svenska, naturligtvis.

There are already some discussion forums, one for various research domains and one for applications. You can propose new discussion forums by sending a message to webmaster@stes.fi.

Examples of topics of posts are presentations the work of a research group of a FAIS member and the  AI-related activities of a company.
